Description

A fragrant wine that shouts out Gruner Veltliner with the green, grassy tones abundant on the nose.  A wonderfully accessible bead and a palate brimming with fresh fruit and green peppers. Made in the traditional method, which means that beautiful soft yeast tones linger on the long finish.

This sparkling (Sekt) wine is produced from Grüner Veltliner grapes grown in loess soils, of course, in cooler sites. Compared to other sparkling wines, the base wine for the Sekt comes from fruit which is harvested relatively late, at the beginning of October when the grapes already possess a lot of flavour of their own. After the grapes are whole-bunch pressed, the juice ferments spontaneously in stainless steel tanks. Then, in line with the traditional bottle fermentation method, the Sekt ripens for 18 months on the lees, with a dosage of around 5g of sugar per litre.

Hans and Paula Diwald grew up in the 1960s, both on a farm. In 1972, they took over the business and restructured it. Since 1976, they have become true pioneers by endeavouring something unthinkable: converting to organic farming practices. Back then there was no official certification yet, only a handful of kindred spirits. Paula and Hans used to be on the receiving end of condescending smiles, but today they are considered among the pioneers of a whole movement. We currently farm 20 ha of vines on our farm and export our wine to 18 countries, on 3 continents. In 2006, Martin Diwald joined the estate. After studying at the Institute of Viticulture and Pomology in Klosterneuburg and completing numerous internships, he was pushed straight into the deep end. He took great joy in experimenting and has never lost that enthusiasm. For example, his experiments with spontaneous fermentation were so successful that already in his second year all the wines were fermented in this way.
