New Zealand

It wasn't until around 1836 that grapes were brought over to New Zealand, the oldest existing vineyard was established in Hawkes Bay, Mission Estate. New Zealand's wine regions extend 1,000 miles from subtropical Northland down to the most southerly wine region in the world, Central Otago. Being exposed to the vigorous Pacific there are very strong maritime influences. Originally famous for its Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand is now gaining recognition for the production of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, showcasing a distinctive New World expression. There are a whole range of exciting wineries experimenting with new techniques and varietals as well as refined classics such as Clos Henri who produces different expressions of Sauvignon Blanc alongside Huia Wines who achieve the highest quality with a natural approach.
