Planting vines shortly after colonisation started. There is plenty of history in this hot wine country. With lots of European interest since the beginning, many class South Africa as an 'Old World' country. Making high quality examples of French varietals such as Chenin Blanc, as well as fashioning their own unique style and even grapes such as Pinotage. Despite its hot climate there are several cooler regions which produce elegant and interesting wines.
