David Franz, Plane Turning Right 2015
Merlot 54%, Petit Verdot 27%, Cabernet Sauvignon 19%
Vermilion lips promises of kisses to follow. Initially the waft of an exotic well coiffed lady of mystery seductively catches the edge of your nose before her jealous beau dressed in tweed looms out of the bramble patch carefully packing a cherry wood pipe with three nuns Tobacco giving a warning glance…The stick is pushed forward and a heady dive into a whirlpool of gauzy silken scarves, coy glances and promises of heaven while the steady Rhumba of a well rounded dancer leads you ever further from the safety of your friends. You turn to look back but the purple haze obscures your vision and cherry wood sticks softly tap on your thighs; warnings of discipline to come… Before the night draws to a close.
54% Merlot from our Stelzer Road Block 27% Petit Verdot Grown by Bernie Kaeding and Sam Kurtz on their edge of Moppa Block and 19% Cabernet Sauvignon from our Horse Paddock Block Total production 4300 bottles made.
David Franz is the son of winemaking great, Peter Lehmann. After spending some time in the great wine regions of the world, David returned to his native Barossa to toil the fields. Like his father, David firmly believes great wine is made when you see the wine through the whole process, from vine to bottle, starting at pruning. His extreme knowledge and passion combined with having Carte Blanche over 75 acres of prime vineyard results in wines of stunning quality. This is by far one of the most exciting ranges of wine to come out of Barossa and Eden for a while and we are pleased to bring them to you!
JancisRobinson.com 17pts (2013) - Starts subtle and peppery and then opens up to more purple and violets. Velvet texture yet with so much freshness that the rich, deep fruit is lifted to harmony. Long floral finish. Lovely, distinctive wine. (JH)
