Description

It is this combination of the granitic muscle and aromatic purity that makes the 2011 such a treat-Faurie himself rates 2011 above his two previous vintages. Embodying all that is great about this vintage, this is an emphatic, focused and spirited Hermitage with depth to burn. "The palate is a precise, careful affair, again in the Burgundian style, shows small Pinot influences.

His methods are meticulous; soils are ploughed by horse, he uses whole bunch fermentation and his use of oak is fastidious, resulting in spiced, floral and perfumed reds.

Domaine Bernard Faurie’s small Northern Rhone vineyard spans some of the best soils in Hermitage, including Greffieux, Bessards and Meal. Some of his Syrah vines on his tiny 1.7 hectares are over 100 years old, and his winemaking style echoes that of the three generations before him. From his humble cellar in Tournon, which fits just a few barrels, he has crafted soulful and exciting wines for many years.
