The Dark is the first of two releases inspired by the effect that the seasons have on the maturation of Highland Park up on the Orkney Islands. This first release 'The Dark' is a 17 year old malt chosen to reflect the winter solstice.
Bottled at 52.9% and matured in European oak Sherry butts, this release exhibits notes of dried fruits, nuts, spices and a hint of smokey peat - classic Highland Park attributes.

The Dark 17 Year Old is a whisky for reflection; in it we celebrate autumn and winter in Orkney – a time to escape from wild weather outside and gather with friends and family, sharing long nights of conversation and laughter around the fire.

We’ve been crafting our award-winning whisky at the Highland Park Distillery in Kirkwall, Orkney since 1798. Now, over 220 years later, we are one of the ten oldest working distilleries in Scotland. Age, experience and respect for tradition may define our whisky but it’s Orkney that differentiates it. Something magic happens here and the result is a wild harmony of contrasting flavours found in our single malt.
