Mouzon-Leroux, L'Angelique 2012
Rich, nutty aromas with wonderful chalky mineral notes and ripe citrus. On the palate, the wine is compact and tight. It has an incredible finesse and fleshy texture. Flavours of ripe orange and fine-grained mineral qualities. The acidity is well integrated, and courses the length and breadth of the wine, leading to a deliciously long finish. It balances the body to perfection. This is a Champagne that would be worth a decant before pouring, to allow it to truly open out and express itself. Would also advise using a broader-based glass than a classic flute for the same reason.
Made purely from Grand Cru Chardonnay, 55% of which is vinified and matured in oak, 100% undergoes spontaneous fermentation. This has zero dosage, and was disgorged October 2018. It is also un-fined and unfiltered. Only 700 bottles of this astonishing wine have been made, and the 2012 vintage is one that is widely lauded as one of the finest of the decade.
