Throughout June we are celebrating the wines of Portugal. From North to South the country offers vast landscapes and a diverse range of wines created from indigenous and unique grape varietals. To get you started on your own Portuguese wine journey, the team has curated a phenomenal mixed case with some of the finest growers Portugal has to offer while showcasing its unique terroir.
This case contains one bottle of each of the wines listed below.
The Rola de Tinto, Douro 2019 is a 50 year-old red field blend containing varieties like Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão. Thirty percent spent six months in new French oak barriques resulting in a powerfully structured wine, framed by a fuzziness and acid drive with abundant red fruit and liqourice. Give it a decant for it to show at its best.
This vibrant blend of native Portuguese grapes delivers exuberant aromas of red berries complemented by subtle spicy notes. Textured on the palate with silky tannins enveloping the fruit through to a long, delicious finish.
From one of Bairrada's oldest and most famous winemakers, this old-vine red is a great example of his signature style. Aged in large oak barrels resulting in perfumed, elegant red fruit with delicate spices and firm tannins. Fans of Nebbiolo should not mis
From Alvarinho's top producer, this wine is made from some of their oldest vines and is very intense with ripe apricot and peach on the nose. A full and textural mouthfeel, refreshing but integrated acidity, spice and mineral notes and a really long finish. Try it with seared scallops.
The grapes for The Rola de Branco, Douro 2019 wine are grown in two separate plots. Winemaker Ana Rolo found vineyards that express the freshness of the Douro and used the grapes from them to create a modern Douro classic.
On the palate this wine reveals a very fresh and crisp grip, tickling the taste buds with notes of citrus and tropical fruits, to giving way to an extremely smooth yet vibrant almondy complexity with a long finish.
Delicate and fresh aromas, this is a classic Alvarinho with intense tropical and mineral flavours and a long, elegant finish. Delicious on its own or with smoked salmon and salads.
