Richard's Perfect Christmas

£160.00

Description

Our very own Buyer's Christmas case, curated by our Taster in Chief and sharpest palate in town - Richard.

Choosing the wines for your dinner won't be an issue this year, let him guide you through our range for you to enjoy Christmas from aperitif to dessert.

This case contains one bottle of each of the wines listed below.

  • Lucie Thieblemont, Cremant de Bourgogne Brut Zero, France NV

I cannot wait to wake up to this on Christmas morning and get the festivities off to a flyer with Lucie's Cremant. She has taken the wine world by storm in a few short years with this Blanc de Noirs from just outside Chablis! It shows bouncy vibrancy, autolytic complexity (just like great Champagne does) and tense minerality.

  • Kottabos, Chenin Blanc, South Africa 2022

This is a game-changing new find from a small family-owned Stellenbosch farm and Reenen Borman is a winemaker to watch. This South African Chenin Blanc has some skin-contact, giving it just the gentlest of textures - so has a broad church appeal as well as a geek vibe. It is perfect for any unexpected or thirsty guests this festive season as it displays a fine floral perfume, tasty freshly-picked juicy peach, orange and exotic spice, a little like a joyful Christingle in fact.

  • Paolo Conterno, Langhe Bianco Divers Chardonnay, Italy 2017

Diver is slang for different in Piemonte and this is an outrageous wine. An extraordinarily high eighty percent of the wine is aged in new oak barrels for up to fifteen months, resulting in an opulent, ostentatious, bombastic, voluptuous, seductive, must-try style. It will be the life and soul of your Christmas Day lunch party and like your turkey - hopefully - staggeringly succulent. If not have the back-up lobster thermidor with it!

  • Domaine Georges Joillot, Pommard Vielles Vignes, France 2020
I was absolutely gobsmacked by the seductive silky textures, pippy freshness and sheer class and composure of this wine. This fourteen-hectare, fourth-generation family-owned Domaine meticulously manage several tiny old-vine parcels in Pommard and the result is a wine with stunning seamlessness, grace and luscious accessibility. Decant this enchanting wine ahead of your Boxing Day feast - ham in cola, à la Nigella pour moi.

  • Lentsch Reserve Sankt Laurent, Austria 2020
Markus Lentsch is the third-generation custodian of this seventeen-hectare family estate in Neusiedlersee, Austria. The Sankt Laurent grape has classy Pinot Noir thread but a darker fruit profile and more exotic spices with cinnamon to the fore. Juicy acidity and velvety tannins make this perfect with the turkey leftovers or charcuterie.
  • Chateau Lafon, Sauternes, France 2020 (37.5cl)
Lafon is in the middle of the famous Yquem vineyards but costs a tiny fraction of the price. Vines on this twelve-hectare, fourth-generation property are over fifty years old. Labour-intensively, six separate hand pickings are carried out to select only the best, noble rot-affected berries. Elévage (ageing) is in French oak barrels, many of them reused from Yquem. Intense sweetness and flavours of ripe yellow plum and manuka honey capping are balanced by juicy acidity. My preference is for a heavenly pairing with blue cheese, but try it with paté, or Christmas pudding if you must!
