Christmas in Vienna
Imagine walking down the streets of Vienna with all its beautiful Christmas decorations while snow is gently falling and the small of mulled wine fills the air. After stopping off in one of the local Coffeehouses you make your way home and open a delicious bottle of wine. Now we can't all be in Vienna at Christmas but with this bespoke curated case you feel you are. Some of our favourite growers and wines make up this collection and cover all your festive needs from Sparkling to classic Austrian whites and reds before finishing off with a special bottle sweet from Lake Neusiedl just outside Vienna.
This case contains one bottle of each of the wines listed below.
- Diwald, Gruner Veltliner Sekt Extra Brut NV
A fragrant wine that shouts out Gruner Veltliner with the green, grassy tones abundant on the nose. A wonderfully accessible bead and a palate brimming with fresh fruit and green peppers. Made in the traditional method, which means that beautiful soft yeast tones linger on the long finish.
- Diwald, Gruner Veltliner Ried Goldberg 2021
Diwald consider Goldberg as their poster child for Veltliner. It always has something hearty about it: and gives an assertive yet charming wine. Spicy and ripe with a laid-back “baroque” character in warmer years. This complex, profound wine always offers excellent ageing potential!
- Zahel, Wiener Gemischter Satz 2023
The Viennese appellation of origin is dedicated to Gemischter Satz, a field blend harvested and fermented together. No less than six grape varieties give complexity to this beautiful dry wine. Intense fresh peach and apricot aromas with a touch of pineapple. Well balanced by a crisp acidity and good minerality making for a really bright, zippy and enjoyable wine.
- Markus Iro, Zweigelt Ried Ungerberg 2022
A colour of dark ruby garnet. The nose opens with fine wood spices and dark forest berry fruit. The palate is clean and fresh. Ripe cherries, soft nougat, juicy and very elegant. There is fruit sweetness with very well integrated tannins. Drink now but certainly has potential for development.
- Weingut Lentsch, Cabernet Franc 2019
Dark ruby garnet, violet reflections, delicate edge lightening. Delicate plum notes, some black berry confit, a hint of tobacco notes, floral touch, some nougat. Juicy, elegant, velvety tannins, some precious wood spice, blackberry nuances in the finish, some vanilla and roasted aromas in the aftertaste, lingers well, safe development potential.
- Weingut Lentsch, Samling Trockenbeerenauslese 2015 (37.5cl)
Strong golden yellow. Intense floral note of mandarin, fine nutmeg, blossom honey. The palate is juicy with a creamy sweetness, fully ripe yellow peach fruit, some pineapple, good balance, some dominant sweetness in the finish, delicate dessert wine, mineral and long-lasting finish. A wine with aging potential.
