The Beeslaar Pinotage opens with a deep ruby hue and lifts from the glass with a vivid aroma of dark cherries, ripe raspberries and rich blackcurrant. Subtle cedar and spicy tobacco leaf emerge behind the fruit, infused with an earthy note of fynbos shrub. On the palate the wine is generous and concentrated: lush plum and black‑cherry flavours are layered with velvety dark chocolate and forest‑berry tones. The oak is finely integrated, offering a spice‑driven backbone. The tannins are firm yet polished, delivering a long finish edged with bramble, dried herbs and soft Asian‑style spice. This wine shows both power and elegance, designed for ageing yet enjoyable now with some decanting.

This Pinotage is crafted with a clear focus on a single site and minimal compromise. The vineyard is dry‑or partially drip‑irrigated bush‑vine, planted in complexity‑rich soils (shale, Oakleaf and decomposed granite) and subject to cooling south‑easterly winds in the Cape Winelands which aid in preserving freshness. Under Abrie Beeslaar’s guidance, the fruit is handled with precision: small open‑top concrete fermenters to ensure even extraction and early juice diversion from the skins, followed by extended oak ageing to build depth without overwriting the varietal character. The result is a wine that honours the indigenous heritage of Pinotage, yet expresses it with modern finesse.
