The Viennese appellation of origin is dedicated to Gemischter Satz, a field blend of at least three varieties that are harvested and fermented together. Zahel's Gemischter Satz displays fresh stone fruits (white peach and apricot) and pineapple, is dry and has fresh acidity. No less than six grape varieties (Gruner Veltliner, Riesling, Chardonnay, Grauburgunder or Pinot Gris, Weissburgunder or Pinot Blanc, and Traminer) give complexity to this beautiful wine.
Vineyards: Grapes for a Gemischter Satz or field blend are typically interplanted, that is, they come from the same vineyard(s). In this case, the grapes come from three famous winemaking villages that over time have been absorbed by the Viennese agglomeration: Nussdorf, Maurer and Oberlaa.
Winemaking: The grapes are harvested and fermented together in stainless steel.
Zahel works according biodynamic principles. It is a traditional Austrian/Viennese winery in that it sell its wines through their own tavern (or Heuriger). So, we are very happy to have been able to lay our hands on some of their beautiful wines.
