Calco's Pinot Noir has juicy raspberry and red cherry notes on the nose, with a tinge of floral violet character. On the palate, it has crisp acidity, fine chalky tannins and a hint of forest floor. This is a pure coastal Pinot from Chile's Limari Valley, with fresh acidity, juicy red berries and a savoury finish.
Vineyards: Grapes are sourced from the Limarí Valley, where the cooling influence from the Pacific delays ripening, giving a long steady growing season. The vineyard is 20 years old, with limestone and clay soils. The farming is lutte raisonnee.
Winemaking: The grapes are picked with 30% whole clusters retained, and gently crushed before fermentation occurs in 1,000-litre vats. Natural yeasts are used for the process of alcoholic fermentation, which took place at an average temperature of 24 C˚. The wine was aged for 12 months in neutral oak barrels before bottling.
Calco is a collaboration between Triangle Wines and the De Martino family, to make small batch wines from specially selected plots in the cool Pacific influenced Limarí Valley.
