This wine is from the last standing bushvines of Syrah in the Helderberg district. Limited-production, single-vineyard. Notes of black fruit, violets, white pepper, and a hint of black olive, with a spicy and savory character. Light to medium-bodied, unoaked, with powdery tannins and elegant structure

Production Notes Production Notes

Keeping it gentle in the cellar. All grapes are handpicked in small lugboxes. A blend between separate fermentations,all by natural occurring yeast from the vineyard itself. Half was done with 70% stems intact with the grapes, crushed and foot trotted, and the other half only 40% wholeclusters and rest destemmed. No punch downs. Submerged cap and slow extraction. Spontaneous fermentation that lasted over 2 weeks and left for 1 week post fermentation. Basket pressed directly to barrel and aged on its lees for 11 months in old (5th fill) french oak barrels.

Vigneron, Bernhard Bredell, hails from a long lineage of winemakers, rooted in the rich wine-farming heritage of the Lower Helderberg region in Southern Stellenbosch. With over 160 years of family legacy in wine cultivation, Bernhard proudly represents the seventh generation of winemakers in the Bredell family.

In 2016, Bernhard embarked on his personal journey and established Scions of Sinai, a venture inspired by the iconic granite outcrop known as Sinai Hill. Nestled within this historic terrain, Bernhard’s vision is dedicated to honoring the ancient dry-farmed bush vines meticulously tended by generations before him. Many of these vines, rooted in the soil by his late grandfather during the 1960s and 1970s, serve as the heart and soul of Scions of Sinai
