The Ochota Barrels "Where's The Pope?" Syrah 2023 is a small-batch, low-intervention red wine from South Australia. Lifted and aromatic, featuring blackberries, violets, and white pepper. It also has savory undertones of olive tapenade, crushed autumn leaves, and subtle hints of clove or bouillon. It offers a mix of dark fruit, wild raspberries, and satsuma plums. The texture is svelte and silky, with a "crunchy" acidity and fine, velvety tannins.

The fruit was hand-picked in early February and underwent spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts.  A majority of the fruit (roughly 60–65%) was fermented as whole clusters in open-top bins outdoors. It utilized a combination of 80% short, gentle maceration with hand plunging and 20% carbonic maceration to enhance aromatics. The wine was basket-pressed into seasoned (old) French barriques where it matured for five months on its gross lees. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered with only a minimal addition of sulfur
