The Naughton Cider Company, Overture 2020

Overture is a 50/50 blend of cider and culinary apples from the 2020 season. The Cider apples were vinified in oak to soften up the tannins and the eating apples in stainless steel to preserve their fresh acidity for 10 months. It was then bottled and rested on lees for 23 months before disgorging this month.

Peter Crawford established Naughton Cider Company in 2020, based at his family estate near Balmarino. Peter's day job is all about Champagne and he heads up a major importer of Grower Champagnes into the UK. Not able to grow grapes in the frozen north, he decided with his wife, Sarah, to create a cider company, planting hundreds of trees, and using the apples from the ancient trees in his walled garden. His ciders are all more vinous than a lot of cider producers, more like apple wine or apple champagne! They all show remarkable balance and elegance and if you like cider.... or wine.... you should try them. Expect awards to come thick and fast for this producer.
