A focused, higher altitude expression of Portugal's flagship red grape, from vineyards at around 550 metres. This is a cooler, fresher take on Touriga Nacional with less power, but more lift and aromatic detail.
Handled with the same thoughtful restraint, with hand harvesting in small crates, a cool, slow maceration then ageing in stainless steel with 30% spending 16 months in old 228 litre French oak barrels. This is a wine built for both the table and the cellar.
In the glass it's deep and structured, with dark fruit, a savoury, slightly leathery edge and layers of spice. There's real architecture here with ripe tannins, bright acidity and a long, composed finish. 

Drink now with something substantial (a good steak would do nicely), or hold and watch it develop further.

The sub-region of Cima Corgo, which distinguishes itself from the others by presenting a cooler continental climate, gave origin to this single blend Touriga Nacional. The result is a more jovial, floral and fresher Touriga Nacional than generally found in the other Douro sub-regions.

The Maçanita Vinhos project was created by characterful siblings, Joana and António Maçanita, in the Douro back in 2011.

Having worked together in over 14 wineries around the country, they wanted the new project to reflect their experiences and aspirations: lots of laughter, lots of arguments and an ethos of questioning the existing way of doing things. Over the intervening years, Maçanita Vinhos have managed to encompass the diversity of the terroir of the Douro Valley in its purest and most faithful form. The wines of Maçanita express each facet of this spectacular landscape: the “high-altitude Douro”, the “hot schist Douro”, the “cold granite Douro” all through indigenous grape varieties from old vines and a non-interventionist approach.
