Description

The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru offers intense black cherry, boysenberry and blueberry on the ripe, candied, generous nose, becoming more floral with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red and black fruit laced with blood orange and spices. Quite dense and grippy, this is another Gouges 2017 that will require several years in bottle. Located on the South hillside of Nuits Saint Georges, our two parcels are assembled during vinification for a total surface of 1,8 hectare. This Premier Cru extends in the middle of hillside between 240 and 260 meters of altitude, where we can find a large complexity of rocks, from the flush rock to the screes coming from the top of the hillside. With vines of an average age of 50 years, the Premier Cru Les Pruliers is an intense and robust wine which has a beautiful capacity to ageing.

The war leading to a decrease in prices, Henri Gouges (1889-1967) jumps at the opportunity and acquires the major part of the vines that constitute the estate today. His purchase of vineyards in Nuits Saint Georges in 1920 marks the beginning of the Gouges’ history.

“It is in the vineyards that the Great Wines ripen”, this adage guides all of our choices since the creation of the estate. In 1940, Marcel and Michel Gouges decided to replant the old vineyard to ensure the future. Pierre and Christian attended to modernize the wine production techniques and were the first ones to follow the path of a sustainable viticulture with nothing but quality.

Concerned about the current issues, Grégory and Antoine Gouges, decided to mark their era of responsibility and ecology. For 15 years, the whole estate has been working according to the principles of organic farming. Prioritizing biodiversity, focusing on the vine root development, and supporting the development of microorganisms, the study of soil and its exchanges are the keywords of this fourth generation.
