Gigondas Terre des Aines, Domaine Montirius, Rhone, 2017
Grenache 800%, Mourvedre 20%
This was a one-off parcel of a single case, which has had the benefit of a few years ageing, lending the wine additionally complexity. The wine is a classic southern Rhône blend of Grenache and Mourvedre, aged without the use of oak showcasing dark berry fruit and cherries and stony minerality. Domaine Montirius has been operating biodynamically since 1999. We have just a handful of bottles remaining. Carries the Biodyvin marque. The grapes are certified as being organic by Ecocert France.
Vineyards: the grapes come from three different, biodynamically farmed parcels. The soils consist of blue marl, sand, and sandstone.
Winemaking: After the manual harvest, the grapes are de-stemmed, lightly crushed, and fermented with natural indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged incement vats for two winters, and then in bottle. 100% oak free.
Situated in the southern Rhone Valley, our 58 hectare domain with vines in the Vacqueyras, Gigondas and Cotes du Rhone appellations has been converted to biodynamic culture since 1996. Since then, Montirius has enriched its range with wines from the Vaucluse, all made from biological and biodynamic grapes.
