This remarkable Chardonnay comes from Karoo-Hoogland, a pioneering vineyard region in South Africa's Northern Cape where vines sit 1200 metres above sea level in a remote semi-desert landscape. Intense sunshine, cool temperatures and high-altitude create fruit with both impressive concentration and natural brightness.

Expect a subtle flinty reduction leading to ripe, concentrated fruit and a creamy, weighty texture. Rich and opulent, yet beautifully balanced, it remains precise, linear and impressively long.

The grapes were whole-bunch fermented in open-topped vats before ageing in used oak barriques, with two thirds in second-fill and one third in third-fill barrels.

Only 440 bottles were produced with just 120 allocated to the UK.

Edith May is a tiny, deeply personal South African wine project created by winemaker Nikki Weerts. Nikki began her career in Stellenbosch before spending time in California, where she honed her craft and developed a particular affinity for Pinot Noir while making wine for Sonoma's boutique WindRacer label.

After returning to the Cape Winelands with her family in 2022, she set out to create a collection of wines under her own name. The project is named in honour of grandmother, Edith May, and brings together everything Nikki. has learned abroad with the distinctive character of South Africa's most exciting vineyards.

Working in remarkably small quantities, Nikki produces expressive, site-driven wines with generous fruit, beautifully judged texture and an underlying freshness. Her style brings together California experience and unmistakably South African terroir.
