Originally, a partnership between Eddie Doran & Andre Babenhorst. A family owned and operated farm with the vineyards and wines named after family members. Honor is Eddie's granddaughter & Tom's 2nd daughter. This wine is aged in 3rd and 4th fill French oak for 15 months.
Originally from Ireland, Edwin Doran spent his life building up a travel business and following one of his passions in life, rugby. Together with his other passion, wine, he made many useful contacts and announced to one of them, well known South African producer Andre Badenhorst that he wanted to buy a vineyard.
So, having sold the travel business and with Andre’s help he bought what was then Far Horizon’s Farm in the west of the Voor Paardeberg region in August 2010 at the age of 65.They were greeted with a very small harvest so set out to improve the vineyard, including changing the trellising system. Yields are kept down with the emphasis on quality and a new cellar has been built. The grapes from the farm are supplemented with some from other local growers to make the Horse Mountain range but the Family Vineyards range is just from their own fruit. In a very short period of time Edwin has succeeded in making some superb wines.
