Domaine Thibaud Boudignon, Savennieres Clos de la Hutte 2018

Clos de La Hutte is a vineyard planted in 2011 in the hamlet of La Possonniere in Savennières on soils of solid schist. This 100% Chenin Blanc is fermented with indigenous yeast and aged in 50% 350 liter and 50% 500 liter barrels, 15% of which are new wood, without malolactic conversion. An absolutely stunning example of Chenin.

Originally from Bordeaux, Thibauld Boudignon has reached the upper ecehelon of Chenin Blanc producers in the Loire Valley. He began his winemaking journey in Burgundy in 2000, where he worked at Philipe Charlopin in Gevery-Chambertin, after which he was hired as the winemaker for the historic Château Soucherie in Savennières. While at Soucherie, he implemented organic farming practices in the vineyards, which, combined with his vinicultural know-how, helped to further cement the already stellar reputation of the Château. In 2009, Thibauld began to produce wine under his own name. He started with 3.5 hectares in Anjou and Savennières, channeling all his energy into producing the highest quality fruit he could through organic and biodynamic farming practices. In a remarkably short amount of time Thibauld has become arguably the top producer of Savennières and the noble Chenin Blanc grape.
