The vinification is very traditional: manual harvesting, cold maceration then fermentation with indigenous yeasts, vatting for around 15 days depending on the year, aging on lees for 12 to 18 months in barrels, 30% of which are new wood from the Allier and Limousin.
The estate was founded in the 1850s by Alex Seguin, a Burgundian pioneer in the fight against Phylloxera - he was one of the first winemakers to graft vines onto American rootstock in an effort to prevent the spread of the disease.
A brand new winery was built in 1973, just before Gerard Seguin took over control of the estate and the winemaking in 1977. He has been dedicated to the production of great wines under the Seguin name ever since.
