The vines are at a density of 7,000–9,000 vines/ha laid out with grassed and flower strips for the diversification of the flora and to let our small, light tractors through, we alternate tilling with controlled natural grassing. Vinified Partly in whole bunches in our hillside cellars and matured in oak tuns for 7 months.
Long regarded as the top domaine in the Côte de Brouilly, Château Thivin is also the oldest estate on Mont Brouilly, built on an ancient volcano back in the 15th century. Run by the third generation of the Geoffray family, who have been farming the estate since 1977, Château Thivin is the benchmark of the Cote de Brouilly appellation in Beaujolais.
Claude, Evelyne and their son Claude-Edouard vinify grapes from 7 individual plots making a wine from single vineyard to a blend that represents perfectly the Côte de Brouilly appellation: “Les 7 Vignes”. They practice rational vine treatments, planting herbs and flowers between the rows of 50-plus-year-old vines, ploughing regularly and using natural composts to keep their vines healthy.
