Chateau Sigalas Raubaud, La Semillante de Sigalas Blanc Sec 2017

Part of the estate is reserved for the production of dry white wines, including La Sémillante de Sigalas. The specific know-how of Sauternes winemakers allows Sigalas to produce it without the addition of Botrytis Cinera. The driving choices of the vineyard are the same as for Premier Cru Classé. The harvest is also carried out manually by successive sorting over maturity. Sémillante is a 100% Semillon, fermented partly in barrels. This wine is a varietal that originated in Bordeaux. However, true to the Bordeaux tradition Semillante remains a wine of blending. Here the blending is not done between the different grape varieties but according to the qualities of the lots which gives complexity to the wine.

Equipped with a solid scientific background acquired from Montpellier Supagro and the Faculty of Oenology of Bordeaux, Laure de Lambert Compeyrot is now general director of the property, embodying the sixth generation of Sigalas Rabaud since 1863. Concerned to maintain the remarkable heritage of Sigalas, she selected vines with the Chamber of Agriculture the old vines, specially duplicated by a private nursery. She uses cultivation methods that suppress all herbicide use, replaces fungicides with sexual confusion, and increases observations of auxiliary fauna. Sigalas thus obtained the highest level of certification “High Environmental Value” in 2016. Her two sons, Jean and Matthieu, to whom she passed on her passion, created their own wine trading company.
