Description

The Chateau Cos d'Estournel, Pagodes de Cos Saint Estephe 2015 has a generous earthy bouquet of blueberries and brambles. On the palate it is medium-bodied and has pleasantly fine tannins. Oak is well-integrated resulting in an overall smooth and velvety mouthfeel.  This wine drinks nicely now but could improve for up to five to ten years.

The 2015 Pagodes de Cos is a typical Bordeaux blend of 46.2% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5.8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot that is matured in 30% new barrels.

The strikingly exotic Chateau Cos d'Estournel with its sandstone pagodas was established by Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel in 1791. Located close to the border with Pauillac and just north of Chateau Lafite, it is one of the most prominent estates in the Saint-Estephe appellation. The vines in Cos' well-draining vineyards are rooted in gravel soils with a high clay content. Combined with an south-facing exposure of the vineyards, the conditions for grape growing are excellent.

In the last twenty years or so, the estate has started focusing more and more on Cabernet Sauvignon and on plot-by-plot work in the vineyard.
