Located in Moulis, the smallest appellation in the Medoc, Chateau Chasse Spleen has been managed by women for the last 30 years. Its extraordinarily varied terroir consists of complementary soil types going from pure Garonne and Pyrenean gravel to a mixture of clay and limestone. The estate has 90 hectares under vine, growing 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. The name? Allegedly a poet, possibly Byron, visited the Chateau in the 1820`s, and used the phrase `dispel the spleen`, which roughly translates to `chase the blues away` with regard to the effect the wine had on him. Whether tall or not, it remains a good tale and the name Chasse-Spleen was adopted in 1861
