Chateau Tirecul, La Graviere Monbazillac 2021 (50cl)

90% of the 9ha vineyard is planted with an even split between Semillon and Muscadelle, the latter is a fascinating variety, often in the background but it can be the real star of the show. The balance is Sauvignon Blanc and the recently allowed Chenin. The exact blend of the sweet wines is unknown because the grapes are picked when they are showing the best elements of botrytis and fermented together.

At the beginning of 1992 Claudie and Bruno Bilancini leased 9 hectares of the ‘Vineyards of Tirecul’, one of the ancient Premier Crus of Monbazillac. At this time the vines was in very poor condition. Though at the same time, they could see the potential. There were enormous assets in this domaine - old vines planted on the best hillside slope of the region and a soil free from chemical fertiliser. Straight from the first vintages, the wines received international and national acclaim, to such an extent that by 1997 they found they had the means to purchase the domaine, to restore and develop the ancient chais and to begin implementing our rigorous standards for the vineyard.

From the very beginning they chose to have a respectful approach to the environment, then decided to formalise this by converting to organic farming in 2009. Since 2012, all our wines are officially organic.
