Description

Made from Moristel, a traditional grape of the Somontano region. Red fruits are pungent on the nose as well as crushed rocks and earth. Flavours of rhubarb, dried cranberry and baked plums. Generous but not overpowering acidity that melds well with the soft tannins.

5000 bottles are produced from vines around 20 years old grown in sandy loam, with sandstone and marl at 400-600m altitude. Rainfall is 400 mm or less. High diurnal temperature range promotes polyphenol maturity while protecting natural acidity. 4 components commenced fermentation in stainless. Unwooded, unfined, unfiltered, minimal sulphur, 'just the naturally fermented grape, bottled'. This was fermented with natural yeast.

Bodega Pirineos is a co-operative of over 200 growers who helped develop the Somontano region in northern Spain. Established in 1993 and owned by the historic Jerez based Barbadillo winery. Bodega Pirineos focuses on showcasing Somontano and its unique terroir. Growing a variety of grapes including local and international varieties.
