Description
Visually, the colour is very dark typical of well ripened fruit. On the nose, it offers floral and fruity aromas that will develop into more complex notes, thanks to the bottle ageing. However, subtle touches of liquorice, incense and spices can be perceived from the very beginning. On the palate, it is intense, round and persistent, typical characteristics of an excellent vintage. The tannins, although highly concentrated, are sweet and smooth. This wine exhibits a remarkable balance in terms of acidity.

Delivery Information
The grapes come from very old vines, ranging from 40 to 100 years old, located around seven villages in Ribera del Duero: Roa, La Horra, La Aguilera, Fresnillo, Moradillo, Hontoria y Baños de Valdearados. We have now also begun to vinify the grapes of our vineyards located in Quintanilla de Arriba and Piñel de Abajo. Harvest is exclusively by hand, using small 15 kg. containers and the grapes are brought immediately to the winery where they are thoroughly inspected in two grape-selection conveyor belts. Average oak ageing of 20 months, in 50% new French barrels, and 50% in one to three year old French and American barrels.
The Aalto project was founded in February 1999, in the prestigious winemaking region of Ribera del Duero. The foundational aim of Mariano Garcia and Javier Zaccagnini in Aalto was to make a wine that shows a different personality, of high quality and being a faithful reflection of distinct locations, blending them at the end of the aging process to obtain balance and complexity.
Mariano García studied at the “Escuela de la Vid y el Vino” in Madrid and made his first harvest in 1968 at Vega Sicilia, where he developed his professional career as Technical Director of the company for 30 years, until 1998. In 1999, he founded with Javier Zaccagnini, Bodegas AALTO, as Technical Director from the first day. As a winemaker, Mariano García firmly controls the yields, respecting the grapes as much as possible and his philosophy of minimum intervention, searching for the maximum expression of the terroir in each plot. The wines unite the power and structure with elegance and complexity.
