A silky and pure Tuscan red, with the natural fruit intensity and the freshness to pair nicely with a wide variety of different cuisines. The nose is fragrant and bright with cherry, cassis and an intriguing smoky quality. The tannins are present and the wine could benefit from a few years hidden away or a simple decanting for an hour or so.
Soils consist of a sedimentation from the Pliocene (3-5 million years ago) of marine origin, the Poggetti di sopra vineyard is permeated by a vein of deep, blue sodic clay. Rich in silt and limestone, but with little or no stones in the underground, the soil is alkaline and does not present much organic matter. The vines are 37 years old and are guyot-trained at an altitude of 300 metres and grow at a density of 2,564 plants / hectare. The grapes were hand-picked on September 26th.After hand picking and sorting, the fermentation was spontaneous. Alcoholic fermentation of whole berries and maceration on the skins which lasted 25 days followed by 24 months in large oak casks. 2,932 bottles produced.
Alliance is a group of six Nobile producers - Salcheto, Poliziano, La Braccesca, Dei, Boscarelli, and Avignonesi - all sharing the dedication to Nobile’s rediscovery. The six winemakers have coordinated their respective work and each crafted a cru 100% Sangiovese Nobile specifically for this project. The Poggetto di Sopra brings out the characteristics of its environment, recalling the clay soil it lays upon.
