This 100% Lagrein is part of the classic line of the Muri-Gries winery. Lagrein is an indigenous South Tyrolean grape variety, thought to be related to Syrah. In the glass, it impresses with its deep, purple-red colour, showing its concentration and expressiveness. On the nose, it unfolds a multi-faceted bouquet of dark forest berries, ripe plums and sour cherries, accompanied by floral notes such as violets. Spicy notes of cloves, black pepper, vanilla and a hint of dark chocolate give it additional depth and sophistication.

In their quest for ideal vine stocks, oenologist Christian Werth and viticulturist Walter Bernard have performed intensive research in the vineyards and cellars since the early 1990s to preserve and propagate the highest quality old Lagrein vines. This multi-year selection has delivered exceptional Lagrein biotypes.

They focus on carefully observing every phase of vine grown, nurturing the vines every step of the way, with the aim of achieving the best possible grape quality.

In 1845, the Benedictines moved from Muri in Switzerland to Gries in South Tyrol, where the order took over the Augustinian monastery. In so doing, they inherited a long tradition of wine-growing. Muri-Gries have a clear, long-standing commitment to Lagrein as a native grape variety.

The result, in the 21st century, is a range of top-quality wines which have been produced from selected grapes from the very best sites since 1989.
