The Alte Reben Spätburgunder is a wine that speaks fluently in the dialect of Grand Cru Burgundy, yet is unmistakably German in its purity and precision.
 
Made entirely from old vines in the prestigious Bienenberg vineyard, the Grand Cru fruit is from French and German clones. There is an elegant use of whole bunch and French oak and the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Expect enticing violet florals, suave red berries, silky spice and a nervy freshness.

The Alte Reben selection comes from the oldest vineyards of the winery, which are up to over 60 years of age and grow on a selection of parcels classified as "Großes Gewächs" (the highest classification in terms of quality). The vines' roots are able to sink deep into clay and Loess soils, a sediment of very fine particles carried by the wind, enriched by a deeper vein of limestone and shells of ancestral marine origin. The wine is aged in barrels for 18 months after the harvest, 70% of which are made from new oak.

Described by World of Fine Wine as "one of the most important wine producers in Germany of the past 20 years" Bernard Huber owned a small estate which sits to the east of the famous Kaiserstuhl in the Baden village of Malterdingen. Famed for his world class Pinot Noir, it was a great loss to Germany’s winemaking fraternity when Bernard very sadly passed away in June 2014. The estate passed to his son, Julian, who has quietly and confidently evolved the wines with his own vision.
