Domaine Charles Hugot, "La Forêt" Chablis 2024

Sourced from the "La Forêt" parcel, this wine is rooted in classic Kimmeridgian soils, where grey marls alternate with limestone rich in fossilised shells. This distinctive subsoil brings a natural tension and linear, mineral character to the wine.

The vineyard is farmed organically, with regular ploughing to promote soil health, microbial activity and deeper root systems.

In the cellar grapes are gently pressed using a pneumatic press, followed by settling for 12-24hours at around 15ºC. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks with full malolactic conversion.

Ageing is carefuly balanced: one third in oak barrels for added texture and two thirds in stainless steel for freshness. The wine is lightly filtered before bottling, with fining only if required.

Based in the village of Beine, in the heart of Chablis, Domaine Charles Hugot is a new name with deep roots. The estate was originally founded in 1970 by Charles' father and today Charles leads the domaine, bringing over 20 years of experience in the wine trade to this quietly ambitious project.

Working with classic Kimmeridgian soils that define the region, Hugot's focus is firmly on expressing site and purity. The vineyards are farmed organically and in the cellar, the approach is deliberately low-intervention.

Still in its early chapters, Domaine Charles Hugot is already showing the kind of clarity and confidence that suggests it won't stay under the radar for long.
