Touriga Nacional is Portugal’s most celebrated red grape variety, known for producing bold, structured wines with intense aromatics. Originally from the Dão region, it is now widely planted across the country, especially in the Douro Valley, where it plays a key role in both Port wine and high-quality dry reds. The grape has thick skins and small berries, resulting in deeply coloured wines with firm tannins and excellent aging potential. Touriga Nacional is prized for its rich flavours of dark berries, plum, violet, and spice, often accompanied by notes of chocolate, liquorice, and smoky undertones.
