Austria

Austria is known for producing high-quality wines, with a focus on white wines, though red wines have also been gaining recognition in recent years. The country's wine regions are diverse, with a variety of climates and soil types that contribute to the unique characteristics of Austrian wines. Many Austrian winemakers are committed to sustainable practices and organic farming, with a significant portion of the country’s vineyards being certified organic or biodynamic. Why not try Karle Haidle or Diwald who are some of the most well-known producers.

Gruner Veltliner is the flagship grape of Austria and accounts for around a third of the country's vineyard area. It’s a white wine known for its fresh acidity, citrus and stone fruit flavours, and a distinctive peppery note. Grüner Veltliner pairs well with many dishes, especially those featuring vegetables, seafood, and Asian cuisine.

Zweigelt  is the most widely planted red grape in Austria, known for its bright fruit flavours (cherry and berry), moderate tannins, and spice. Zweigelt wines are versatile and pair well with a wide variety of foods, from meats to cheeses.
