The Good Wine Shop were delighted to be asked by the team at The Silver Birch to pair wines for their fantastic Valentine’s Day menu, what better way to celebrate at home with your loved one?!
In collaboration with the team at The Silver Birch Chiswick, we have chosen the following wines to match with the corresponding courses, and hope they elevate your experience of the Restaurant’s incredible menu.

Roasted Bone Marrow:
Alain Coudert, Fleurie Clos de la Roilette 2018 - Half Bottle
A restrained nose of plums, mulberries and dark cherry fruit, with meaty elements, smoke, olives, pepper, liquorice and menthol in the mix. There’s a fascinating salty, nutty/savoury component married to forest floor and floral violet/iris notes, all tied together by lip-smacking acidity. This is a wine that ages gracefully, in more of a Burgundian vein than Beaujolais. As the wine is not fined or filtered please expect a small amount of natural sediment in the bottle.
Chicory, Feta:
Cantina Terlano, Terlaner Cuvee 2018 - Half Bottle
A composition of Terlano's three most traditional white varieties, namely Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay and Sauvignon. Pinot Bianco, as the
main variety used in the cuvée, provides the freshness and a good acid structure, while Chardonnay delivers a pleasing texture and Sauvignon adds the fine aromatic character.
Red Wine Braised Short Ribs:
Caparzo, Brunello di Montalcino 2015 - Half Bottle
The wine is aged for 3 years in the traditional 80 hectolitre Slavonian and 50 hectolitre French oak, followed by at least 4 months ageing in bottle before the wine is released. Ruby colour, tending towards garnet with age. A complex and ample bouquet, wild berry fruit, tea leaf and orange peel. Palate is dry, firm, both delicate and austere. Very long length and persistent tannins on the finish. Classic Brunello.
Yorkshire Rhubarb Crumble:
Domaine des Bernardins, Muscat Beaumes de Venise 2019 - Half Bottle
This has always been a favoured Muscat due to its exotic richness of fruit that sums up this lovely part of the Rhône. The faint pink hue, from skin pigmentation of sun-gorged grapes is an unexpected surprise.
