Cantina Cellaro, Syrah Luma 2019, Italy

Syrah was introduced to Sicily in the 1990s, and this delicious and great value example comes from low yielding vines and undergoes 10-12 days skin contact to give a bright and concentrated style. Intense ruby colour, violet notes. Lightly tannic, full and persistent aroma. Well balanced and easily drinkable.

Scotto Cellars, Grace Bridge Pinot Noir 2016, USA

Juicy and supple with succulent strawberry and raspberry fruit against a backdrop of subtle, toasty oak and a bright, fresh finish. A great bargain, especially in Californian terms. Not at all jammy or sweet, it's rare to find a 'grown-up' Pinot at this price!

Salcheto, Chianti Colli Senesi 2018, Italy

A blend of 85% Sangiovese, with 8% Canaiolo, and 7% Mammolo. This is fun, fresh, flavourful Chianti at an incredible price. The estate is very environmentally minded and this unusual bottle shape is apparently the absolute lightest on the market and intended to reduce the carbon footprint of the wine.

Edoardo Miroglio, Soli Pinot Noir 2016, Bulgaria

JEdoardo Miroglio, an Italian textile magnate, first came to Thrace in southeast Bulgaria to sell fabrics and set up his own textile and wool factory in Sliven. As his family originated from Alba in Piedmont, where they own two wineries, it seemed natural for him to explore the local Bulgarian terroirs. He saw potential in the Thracian Lowland's terroir and climate with its diurnal temperatures, cooling winds from the mountains in the north and warm dry summers suitable for organic viticulture, and in 1999 he set up his new winery. It would be hard to imagine a better value Pinot Noir than Edoardo Miroglio's 'Soli'. Extremely pretty ripe fruit character and delicate texture combine with genuine complexity.

Chateau Pesquie, Ventoux Ventvri 974 2015, France

This delicious Rhone red is dominated by dark fruit flavours such as plums, cherries and black berries well balanced with a subtle smoky aroma. On the palate is juicy and vibrant with dark berry fruit and hints of chocolate. Try it with venison with chocolate pepper sauce.

Blason, Cabernet Franc 2018, Italy

Ruby red in colour, with a distinctive bouquet of newly mown grass, bell pepper, ripe raspberry, green pepper spice and liquorice. On the palate it is dry with a touch of spice, and underlying notes of walnut skin and wild berries. Try it with herb-stuffed rolled lamb breast.
