Description

We have long championed South African wines and right now, their industry is in crisis – having suffered a national alcohol ban for several months, their only way to sell their wines, and empty their tanks for the new vintage, was to export. It also had catastrophic implications for many of the workers who depend on that income, especially in a country without a meaningful support program for the less fortunate.

Many in the UK wine trade are trying to help by encouraging customers to buy South African. We too would like to encourage you to Think South Africa when you’re buying wine and to make it easier on where to start, we’ve put together this special mixed case.

And if you’re a social media user then please share what you're drinking using the hashtag #MyFavouriteSouthAfricanWines.

This case contains one bottle of each of the wines listed below.

  • Krone Borealis, Méthode Cap Classique 2018

A fantastic and affordable alternative to Champagne – and produced the same way, this blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, this great value fizz offers classic flavours of green apple and pear, accompanied by biscuity aromas, with a creamy mouthfeel and a fine persistent mousse.

  • Savage, Salt River Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Beautifully complex and intense, the aromatics show notes of freshly cut fennel, yellow baking apples, waxy lemon peel and hints of fresh wet thatch. On the palate, it’s just as impressive with nervy, pithy yellow grapefruit peel zest, white citrus spice, tangerine and peach liquor nuances on the saline finish.

  • Lourens Family Wines, Lindi Carien 2019

First produced in 2015 in honour of his wife, this wine is 50% Chenin Blanc, 42% Verdelho and 8% Grenache Blanc and aged for 10 months in old French barrels and amphorae. Appealing nose of pear, peach, citrus with notes of dried herbs, and an elegant palate with a long and moreish finish.

  • Blank Bottle, Master of None 2019

This blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Pinot Noir and Chenin Blanc is bright and juicy with lifted aromas of wild strawberry, cherry and delicate earthy and smoky aromas. Amazingly fresh, the finish has a delicious savouriness to it.

  • Keermont, Syrah 2015

Enchanting bouquet of violets, dusty sandal wood and a hint of spicy red fruit. The palate is elegant and soft, and has a clean linear acidity. It has a strong floral character with spicy red fruit and hints of cherry sherbet. It has supple tannins and a long earthy herbal finish.

  • Groot Constantia, Pinotage 2018

A full-bodied style with intense aromas of confected red cherries, ripe plum, dark chocolate and some hints of coffee and sweet vanilla. The palate is silky with ripe tannins and a long finish.
