Rioja Journey Mixed Case

Work your way through the region with this selection of traditional and New Wave Rioja - from white to Gran Reserva.

This case contains one bottle of each of the wines listed below.

• Bodegas Montecillo, Rioja Blanco 2019 – Viura, Tempranillo Blanco, Sauvignon Blanc

Fermentation in new French oak barrels and regular batonnage over five months. Vibrant with lifted aromas of passion fruit, grapefruit and white flowers with hints of sweet oak and patisserie. Broad with a silky texture, it is very persistent with a long fruity finish. Very versatile, it is perfect with any meal from fish and foie gras to white meat, poultry and mature cheeses.

• Bodegas Domeco de Jarauta, Zelodonio 2019 – 100% Tempranillo – Sustainable

From old vines planted on calcareous clay soil, this is a full-bodied wine packed with dark fruits and sweet spices with lovely liquorice notes – a real crowd pleaser.

• Badiola, Tempranillo de Laderas 2018 – 100% Tempranillo

1/3 of the wine was aged in old French and American oak barrels for five months while the rest was aged in stainless steel tanks resulting in a bright and fresh wine. Pure and precise aromas of red cherries, summer pudding with a floral note, some thyme and a hint of spice. Overall low on oak with fine tannins and a long finish. Serve slightly chilled.

• Bodegas Benito Urbina, Rioja Crianza 2012 – 100% Tempranillo – Vegan

This is a silky, polished mid-weight Rioja aged in American oak in the traditional way. Strawberry flavours with soft spicy notes from oak-ageing and very gentle tannins make it a good match for quite delicate dishes – a roast chicken or even with a gutsy fish roast in the oven.

• Bodegas Taron, Pantocrator Edicion Limitada 2010 – 100% Tempranillo

Aged for a year in stainless steel tanks, it then spends 24 months in new American oak barrels and a minimum of 6 years in bottle before selling. Full-bodied and complex with loads of cherries and spices and refreshing hints of liquorice and eucalyptus. Elegant with silky tannins and vibrant acidity.

• Bodegas Montecillo, 22 Barricas Rioja Gran Reserva 2011 – 50% Tempranillo, 30% Graciano, 15% Garnacha, 5% Mazuelo

Aged for 32 months in new French oak and a minimum of 4 years in bottle, the wine is robust and deliciously smooth with a very long finish. Bright red fruit and a subtle toasty oak with cloves and black tea. The palate is super-seductive with nice acidity and smooth tannins. One of Rioja's very best Gran Reservas.
