Rheinhessen Mixed Case

Rheinhessen is Germany's largest wine region with over 26,800 ha of vines. Lying in a valley of gentle rolling hills on the left bank of the Rhine, the region produces mostly white wine, particularly from Riesling, Müller-Thurgau and Silvaner, although there’s a recent boom in red wine with now a third of Rheinhessen’s vineyards being planted with red grapes.

A new, young generation of local winegrowers, appreciating the ideal working conditions in these gentle slopes, have drawn attention to themselves in recent years for their excellent wines, amongst them, high quality Rieslings.

• Katharina Wechsler, Westhofener Riesling 2017 – Organic, Biodynamic practices
  

This dry Riesling is light and crisp with crunchy apples and hints of apricots with a flinty minerality and a long, clean finish.

• Battenfeld-Spanier, Molsheim Riesling Trocken 2018 – Organic, Biodynamic

Disguised as a village wine, this dry Riesling is made from grapes that all come from Premier Cru sites, resulting in a multi-faceted and complex wine. Full of herbal and fruit aromas like orange zest, white fruit, marjoram and a hint of parsley complemented by a fine mineral nuance on the finish.

• Kuhling-Gillot, Nackenheimer Riesling 2017

Dry, medium bodied and juicy with a lively acidity, it is packed with lemon, peach and dried apricots with hints of herbs and slate. The partial ageing in large old barrels give a lightly creamy texture with a smoky minerality and subtle spices notes.

• Wittman, Weisser Burgunder 2020 – Organic, Biodynamic

A pristine Pinot Blanc, creamy and soft with a refreshing acidity. Concentrated ripe orchard fruit and white and yellow peach with hints of basil and mint and a note of spice on the finish. Simply a delicious all-round wine.

• Knewitz, Holzfass Chardonnay 2018

If you love Meursault, you must try this. Creamy and textured on the palate, with pure citrus fruit, oak spices and delicious buttered toast aromas.

• Katharina Wechsler, Pinot Noir 2016 – Organic, Biodynamic practices
  

A Pinot Noir that gloriously combines Old and New World. Light and fresh with high acidity and a Burgundy savoury feel, it is full of spices with nutmeg and a nice oakiness with hints of chocolate.
