Intense aromas of exotic fruits and flowers on the nose lead to a dry, full-bodied palate with an appetising nuttiness. Great with any seafood dish or as refreshingly different aperitif.

Farmed Organically

The artisanal, family-owned winery Pusole is located on the eastern shore of central Sardegna, in the Ogliastra region which offers a varied terrain, going from the beautiful seaside to mountains over 1100 meters tall. Here, for four generations, the Pusole family has cultivated its land, producing wine, corn and olive oil, in addition to breeding a local species of semi-wild pigs called  razza sarda.  Today the family business is run by the siblings Loredana, Lorenzo and Roberto. In their vineyards they cultivate only Cannonau, the the traditional variety of the region. They believe in traditional and natural farming methods, with no use of herbicides and pesticides, no irrigation and no use of chemical products. The soils are worked often and weed control is obtained by inviting herds of sheep into the vineyards. Respect for nature is a key word in everything Pusole does. As Cannonau is a rather vigorous grape variety in terms of fruit production, Pusole performs a thinning out of the grapes in pre-summer, leave approximately 1-1.5 kilos of grapes per plant. The vineyard  Sa Scala  which gives name to the top wine of Pusole, extends over an area of 2 hectares and is planted with 10.000 Cannonau vines, cordon trained, of the winery's own mass selection. The soil here varies from clay-rich to sandy and rich in stones, offering interesting aromatic diversity and flavour profile of the individual microterroirs. Also in the cellar Pusole follows a production philosophy which aims at preserving the true character of the wines, shaped by the soil and the vintage. Only indigenous yeasts are used for the fermentation, and temperatures are controlled

Tasty and good value

I really liked this vermentino, as did my partner. Full body but not over-the-top, and a nice crispness. Agree with the hint of nuttiness in a description. Worked well as an aperitif (though we had another glass with dinner too, and that still works!)
