About Pippa - Specialist Wine Advisor, Teddington
"I landed at The Good Wine Shop in Kew over 10 years ago – the plan was to help out that Christmas! Since then we’ve grown to 4 shops with a busy website and a range of wines that keeps me very happily on my toes every day.
As someone who teaches others about wine I like nothing better than time spent learning about it and working with other wine nerds. I came to wine via hospitality and ended up creating an award-winning wine list before being recruited to teach others about my pet subject.
Beyond my shop life I work independently as a Wine Educator, Presenter and Travel Guide. Spain is my favourite country and Grenache in all guises the grape I most enjoy."
Celler Comunica, Blanca La Pua, Montsant 2019, Spain
“A creamy, but vibrant and fresh blend of Garnatxa Blanca and a little Garnatxa Tinta, lees-aged to develop texture but unoaked. White fruit and a hint of flowers but with some acidity and freshness from the local granite, limestone and slate soils.”
Paradou, Cotes de Provence Rose 2020, France
“A really fresh take on Provence Rose made by Chateau Pesquie where Grenache is paired with Cinsault and the local white Rolle (aka Vermentino). Ripe citrus and flowers on the nose with a gently creamy stone fruit palate and deliciously crisp finish.”
Comando G, La Bruja de Rozas 2020, Spain – Organic, Biodynamic
“No Grenache case would be complete without one of Dani Landi’s wines. This is Garnacha treated with the same reverence as red Burgundy, producing an ethereal, perfumed wine with ripe red fruit and floral hints over a silky, gently spicy palate. Every wine rack should have one.”
Antonella Corda, Cannonau di Sardegna 2019, Italy – Organic
“Jancis Robinson’s wine of the week in January 2021: 'Gorgeously sweet, fresh nose of unadulterated Grenache/Garnacha. Beautiful balance and freshness with some rose-petal aromas and a little saline bite on the end with a light suggestion of some fine sandy tannin. (Off to the beach then?) This definitely belongs in the group of the most-winning examples of this grape. So gentle, refreshing and, despite the alcohol, pure and ethereal.' JR”
La Conreria D'Scala Dei, Black Slate Escaladei, Priorat 2019, Spain
“Garnatxa (80%) with its best blending buddy Carinena on Licorella soils giving plush brambly fruit with the fresh lift of the Carinena and the mineral finish of the slate. Priorat personified.”
Roger Sabon, Chateauneuf-du-Pape Les Olivets 2020, France
“A Grenache-dominant blend with just a little Syrah and Cinsault, this is always a generous style and approachable as soon as released. Ripe and succulent red fruit with spices and dark cherries – comfort in a glass.”
