Mail Road is a project born of friendship and a shared, decades-in-the-making commitment to a particular place. The project is the brainchild of Michael Palmer, Matt Dees and Ron Piazza; Ron and Michael are the co-owners of Mail Road, Matt is the winemaker and the Mt Carmel Vineyard is owned by Ron and his wife Nancy. Releasing their first 2012 vintage only in 2014, their singular focus is to make wines from one extraordinary piece of ground fifty miles northwest of Santa Barbara, California, on a steep, south-facing cliff, north of the Santa Ynez River and only a short distance from the Pacific Ocean at the geographic center of the Santa Rita Hills AVA, Mount Carmel Vineyard. Winemaker Matt Dees got his start in 2004 as winemaker at award-winning Jonata after pursuing a degree in Soil Science from the University of Vermont and several harvest stints across California and New Zealand. The exclusive line of Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays from Mail Road are hard to get their hands on, but are �a thrilling experience� for those who can, according to Antonio Galloni.
