Kuhling-Gillot, Nackenheim Riesling 2017
This Ortswein has a wonderful texture it has subtle smokiness crisp minerality and a gentle array of spices. This wine has structure and superbly balanced, Once it has fermented, a portion undergoes a long aging on lees in large old barrels. This ageing endows the wine with a creamy mouth feel.
Works amazingly well with fish especially smoked.
Certified biodynamic. After hand harvesting, the grapes are kept on their skins for between 8 hours and three days depending on the vintage, before being fermented spontaneously. Vinification for all dry wines is done in 1200 litre wooden barrels, with constant topping up to minimize oxidation, the wines staying on their fine lees until the day of bottling. Vines are predominantly planted on slate soils with a small amount on limestone.
The Kuhling-Gillot vineyards are located in the Northern Rheinhessen, close to the river, in the red slate heartland between the villages of Nackenheim and Oppenheim. The estate has incredible history dating back over 200 years. Their goal is to convey the taste of a wine's passage from space into time. An organic approach to winegrowing expanded into a full bio-dynamic philosophy in 2005, reflecting a larger sense of a grand interconnectedness
