Named No. 1 as this is the top Hexamer wine. Made exclusively from 2 parcels in the Rheingrafenberg; Eisendall and Birkenfelder. On the nose notes of Grapefruit pith and clove spices continue onto the palate which is balanced and has incredible depth for a Riesling.
A combination of marl and red sandstone dominates and owner/winemaker Harald picks relatively late to ensure rich, textural and ripe styles. Yields across the 7ha estate are kept very low, everything is handpicked and the majority of the wines are racked only once to make sure they’re bottled with vigour and have a clean, slatey streak.
The main ambitions of the estate are to create wines that are: Fruit-emphasised wines typical of the variety, wines that reflect the soils on which they grow and Wines that have their own expressiveness and do not adapt to the mainstream. So one or the other of our Rieslings can still prove their backbone in this low acid period!
The soil in the two forest-bordered valleys of the Nahe, which together form the Medingheim Rheingrafenberg, is superficially weathered red sandstone from the time of the Oberrotliegend, which is mainly composed of quartzite gravel and sand. On the up to 55% steep, southeast-facing vine slopes, particularly small-berry grapes grow on barren rock soil, which are bursting with minerality. The wines impress with their filigree and mineral nature; they are characterised by an extensive potpourri of Riesling flavors, led by lime, apple and quince, underlined by a delicate acidity. The Rieslings growing here have enormous potential.
