Deep red/purple colour and a perfumed, scented, fragrant aroma, with toasty and charcuterie overtones. The wine is full-bodied and a little chewy in texture, deep and concentrated, with grunt and aging ability but also drinkability. The tannins really coat the mouth. This is a big, generous-hearted wine with lots going on. It needs time and will cellar superbly.

From our single vineyard planted in 1969 on the eastern slopes of the Grampians. A nice even year with little in the way of heat spikes in the region. The Shiraz was picked in April, then fermented in traditional open fermenters with hand plunging twice a day. The wine was pressed off to barrel where it matured in French oak (10% new) for 16 months before bottling.

Halls Gap Estate was planted in 1969 on the eastern slopes of the Grampians ranges in Western Victoria. For a long time a grower for Seppelts & Penfolds, the vineyard was purchased by the late great Trevor Mast in the mid 1990s and subsequently became a Mount Langi Ghiran vineyard. In 2014 it was purchased by Aaron Drummond (half of Circe Wines) and a new chapter has begun. High elevation, old vines and ancient rocky soils have kept yields low but always delivered incredible quality. 23 acres under vine with a predominance of Shiraz, but a small paddock of old Riesling & Cabernet. The Single vineyard wines of the Estate are labelled Fallen Giants in reference to the dreamtime stories about the creation of the mountains.
