This wine defies... Well, nothing and everything. Forget what you think you know about Pinot Grigio, and forget what you think minimal intervention with 8 months of skin maceration tastes like. This wine is beautiful and transcends anything I could've expected. It's confusing and exciting. Salmon hue, bright and exuberant, and delicate and elegant, but simultaneously profound and intense and impossible to deny. I don't know what to say. It's a melodic violin performance in your mouth.
The Pinot Grigio grapes are fermented and macerates for 8 months on their skins in clay amphora, followed by 2 months ageing in acacia casks.
Wine Advocate 91pts (2016) - Production of this wine was skipped in 2017, so the next vintage after this wine will be 2018. The 2016 Pinot Grigio Fuoripista opens to a pinkish-copperish hue. Skin contact means that this wine reflects the natural pigment color of Pinot Grigio. That unique appearance renders a sense of vitality and radiance that is successfully translated to the bouquet. Candied fruit and tangerine zest emerge from the bouquet of this mid-weight white.
