Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet, Fixin 2019 - MAGNUM

Vineyards: From four parcels, 2.6 hectares in total: Au Près, Fixey, Clos du Villages, and Sorgentière. Clay-limestone soils with vines planted in 1947, 1961, 1963, 1972, and 1984

Winemaking: Fully destemmed. Cold maceration and fermentation is completed in cement with 20 per cent of the stems added for freshness. The wine is then aged for 12 months in barrel (no new oak). 

Amelie Berthaut merged a number of plots she inherited through her father's and her mother's side of the family into a new winery with the name Berthaut-Gerbet. Amelie is in charge of winemaking, while her partner Nicolas Faure takes care of the vineyards. With experience at Prieuré-Roch, DRC, and Chave that almost automatically implies top quality grapes. While studying at the prestigious Sciences-Agro in Bordeaux, she did internships in Bandol (Southern France) and Napa. Her first job was at Crater Rim in New Zealand, after which she did a vintage at her parents' winery, went back to New Zealand and then took over responsibilities in Fixin at the tender age of 25. The rest is history. Now Amelie Berthaut is one of Burgundy's rising stars.
