Description

The Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste, Pauillac 5eme Cru Classe 2011 is pure, fresh and complex! It shows cedary and savoury notes around high intensity dense dark and red fruit, without being heavy. The finish is long, longer, longest. You could call it restrained, but it is sublimely drinkable. A superb wine and a real bargain.

Vineyard: The deep coarse gravel soils are mechanically ploughed. Spraying is kept to the absolute effective minimum.
The grapes are exclusively hand picked and are sorted in two successive selections before and after the de-stemming process.

Winemaking: The grapes go through a three-week period of maceration. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels (typically 60 to 75 percent new barrels) for between sixteen to eighteen months depending on the vintage.

Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a 55-hectare 5eme Cru Classe estate in the Left Bank appellation of Pauillac. Jean-Eugene Borie bought the estate in the late 1970s and put his son Francois-Xavier immediately in charge. Francois-Xavier managed to raise Grand-Puy-Lacoste to among the best of the appellation. The estate also produces a very good second wine that  carries the name of the current owners: Lacoste-Borie. Jane Anson considers this Chateau a 2eme Cru Classe.
